2017-18 SIRS Data on Student Homelessness
Data on student homelessness for the 2017-18 school year is now available:

- The number of students identified as homeless across New York State rose 3% from 2016-17 to 2017-18.
- There were 152,839 students identified as homeless in New York State during the 2017-18 school year, of which:
- 114,659 students were identified as homeless in New York City
- 38,180 students were identified as homeless in the Rest of the State, outside of NYC.
The 2017-18 data includes total counts of students identified as homeless by each school district and charter school across the state, as well as county-level data by grade level and primary nighttime residence. The data were collected by the New York State Education Department in the Student Information Repository System (SIRS).
