March 2019: School Success Resource of the Month
All students benefit from learning how to name and cope with “big feelings.” This can be especially important for students who have experienced chronic stress or trauma.
With it’s bright pictures and simple text, this student-friendly resource from Dr. Patricia Kerig (University of Utah, 2013) can be used to help a student recognize their own “alarms,” identify “triggers,” and develop different strategies to calm their bodies. The “Alarms and Triggers Safety Plan” can be used between an adult and child to create an individual plan or could be adapted into an Social-Emotional Learning lesson for a group or class.
