Welcome to the Training Info Page
for NYC DOE Students in Temporary Housing School-Based Liaisons
Thanks for taking time to learn more about the needs and resources of our students affected by homelessness. Whether you are an official NYC DOE School-Based Liaison or a DOE employee who’s interested in learning more about this important population, the webinar and comprehension exam are designed to provide you with essential information for identifying and supporting Students in Temporary Housing. You’ll also learn about the resources the DOE offers through its Students in Temporary Housing team in the Office of Community Schools, as well as information and guidance available through NYS-TEACHS.
You can always reach out to the STH team at STHinfo@schools.nyc.gov or NYS-TEACHS at email@example.com.
We look forward to helping you advance your understanding of the challenges and resilience of students affected by homelessness!
School Year 2019-20 NYC DOE School-Based Liaison Webinar and Comprehension Exam
In order to meet the training mandates of the federal McKinney-Vento Act as reauthorized by the Every Student Succeeds Act, NYC DOE School-Based Liaisons are required to participate in annual professional development so they can better identify and meet the needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness.
NYC DOE School-Based Liaisons (SBLs) must take ALL of the following steps:
- Ensure that your current contact information has been entered in your school’s Consolidated Plan;
- View the 2019-20 NYC DOE School-Based Liaison Webinar. The 2019-20 School-Based Liaison Webinar may be viewed live (there are five dates) or as a recording. Register for webinars below.
- Complete the online NYC DOE School-Based Liaison Comprehension Exam and accompanying attestations by December 20, 2019. See below for Comprehension Exam link.
NYC DOE School-Based Liaisons may attend one of the following five webinars live, or watch a recorded session. Each webinar has the same content. Live webinar attendance is encouraged, as questions will be answered during the session. However, it is acceptable to watch the recording. SBLs need only participate in one webinar or view the recording.
Once the required training has been completed, all School-Based Liaisons must sign an electronic attestation form before December 20, 2019, which will appear at the beginning of the comprehension exam.
The webinars have visual and sound components. You must be at a computer with speakers to view the webinar. If you cannot access a computer or the computer isn’t loading the GoToWebinar software, you will need to download the PowerPoint slides (below) and dial a long-distance number to follow the webinar. Detailed instructions will be included in your webinar registration confirmation email.
