Creating A School District McKinney-Vento Homeless Policy

All Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), which include school districts, charter schools, and BOCES, must review and revise policies to improve the identification, enrollment, attendance, and success in school of students in temporary housing.  In this webinar, a sample LEA policy on the Education of Students in Temporary Housing will be reviewed to ensure that district policies are in full compliance with updated state and federal laws.

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the educational rights of students in temporary housing under the McKinney-Vento Act.

  • Identify key components in a district homeless policy to improve the identification, enrollment, attendance, and success in school of students in temporary housing.

  • Communicate the role and responsibilities of the McKinney-Vento liaisons to ensure that the rights of students in temporary housing are known and fully protected.
