The Role of Transportation to Support Students in Temporary Housing in New York City

The intent of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is to remove barriers to enrollment and attendance in school to ensure academic success. This webinar is co-sponsored by the NYC Department of Education, Office of Students in Temporary Housing & Foster Care. It will address the key provisions of transportation for students in temporary housing in New York City.

 

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

 

  • Describe the transportation provisions in the McKinney-Vento Act and the Chancellor’s Regulations.

  • Identify the benefits of providing transportation to students experiencing homelessness.

  • Know the role of School-Based STH liaisons is in transportation provision.

  • Plan how to address challenges in providing transportation for McKinney-Vento eligible students.

  • Access resources that support decision-making around transportation.
