Working with Families Experiencing Homelessness

While most parents are valuable partners in working with teachers, staff, and administrators, some parents can be challenging. Parents experiencing homelessness often bring unique challenges to interactions with local liaisons and school staff. This interactive webinar will feature scenarios and offer ways to work with parents experiencing homelessness to ensure the best educational services for their children. While emphasizing what liaisons and school staff can do to avoid formal disputes, the webinar will also discuss the role of the McKinney-Vento dispute process as a tool for reaching a resolution that is objective and fair to all parties.

At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key provisions of the McKinney-Vento Act as it relates to the rights of parents

  • Describe the barriers when partnering with parents.

  • Employ strategies for building trust and de-escalating conflicts.

  • Utilize the dispute process as a tool for resolution.
